Winter Season Abel Tasman 3 Day Unguided Trek
Day 1 Marahau to Anchorage :
Approx 4 hours – 12.4kms
- Pickup from your accommodation (or nearby) in the Nelson area at approx. 7.15am.
- Road transport to Marahau arriving at 8.30am.
- Here one of the staff will meet you and help check-in bags for luggage transfers, hand out your lunch and give you a full briefing before you head off.
- Spend the day hiking and exploring the forest, the track and the golden sand beaches en route to Anchorage.
- A short water taxi ride back to Marahau sees you staying in wonderful BnB style accommodation in Marahau. An evening meal hamper is provided for you to cook your own meal as the local restaurants are all closed during this time.
Day 2 Awaroa Inlet – Totaranui – Land transport to Pohara – stay Ratanui lodge :
Approx. 3hours - 8.1kms
Your water taxi departs Marahau at 9.30am to take you to Awaroa. Then set off on this most beautiful walk. About 40 minutes from Awaroa beach is a wide tidal crossing then it is into some wonderful podocarp forest before coming to the golden sand of Waiharakeke Bay and Goat Bay before the final ascent over to the popular camping spot of Totaranui. This part of the track is called the Rata Trail as there are huge rata trees you walk beside during a portion of the walk. Once at Totaranui you will be picked up by our vehicle and taken by road to Ratanui Lodge in Pohara beach. The service here is exceptional and the amazing.
Stay at Ratanui Lodge
Day 3 Wainui Carpark to Totaranui:
Approx. 5.5 hours - 15.5kms
After breakfast, a short shuttle to Wainui Carpark takes you to the start of your walk for today. From Wainui you are on the less travelled section of the track. The views of Wainui Inlet as you climb up into the native forest are stunning. The route today takes you up and over to Whariwharangi, then on to Mutton Cove and Anapai Beach before arriving at Totaranui. This is a stunning part of the Track. At 2.45pm you get picked up by water taxi and return to Marahau.
The land transport to Nelson departs conveniently from the AquaTaxi base dropping you in Nelson around 6pm.

What to bring
Summer : Sunglasses, sun hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, camera and warm outer layer clothing recommended.
Winter : Wear thermals including woolen socks, warm clothing, hat, gloves, windproof jacket, sunglasses, insect repellent & camera.
You can wear running shoes (trainers, sneakers etc) without having to use specialized hiking boots, sports sandals (sandals with support strap across the back of the heel), hiking boots , water shoes. Jandals are not recommended.

Cancellation policy
- Where the date of cancellation is a date 45 days or more before the start of the tour, the cancellation fee will be equivalent to the deposit paid
- Where the date of cancellation is a date 30 to 45 days before the start of the tour the cancellation fee shall be 25% of the contract price
- Where the date of cancellation is a date 7 to 30 days before the start of the tour the cancellation fee shall be 50% of the contract price
- Where the date of cancellation is a date 7 days or less before the start of the tour the cancellation fee shall be 100% of the contract price
